Griffin was the co-host of CNN’s annual New Year’s Eve celebration from Times Square along with Anderson Cooper.
The photo posted by celebrity photographer Tyler Shields drew the ire of most who saw it, forcing Griffin to apologize.
“I’m a comic,” she said. “I cross the line. I move the line, then I cross it. I went way too far. The image is too disturbing. I understand how it offends people. It wasn’t funny. I get it.”

“I beg for your forgiveness. I went too far,” she said. “I made a mistake and I was wrong.”
President Trump says Griffin “should be ashamed of herself” for the photo.
“My children, especially my 11 year old son, Barron, are having a hard time with this,” the president tweeted Wednesday morning. “Sick!”
On Tuesday, Shields, who is known for his provocative images, released photos he did with Griffin that immediately came under fire from people on Twitter.
